As a project of Caritas, an egg laying facility is being proposed to house 1500 hens producing an average of 1250 eggs per day. This would account for about 15% of the current market in Gros-Morne and give local merchants a cheaper and more convenient alternative to their current supplier.

The location for this project is land owned by Caritas that has already been donated with the intent of constructing this facility. With the decreased cost of transportation and damage, a high-quality poultry product could be offered at a more reasonable price to current egg sellers. We will work with these local merchants as well as the community in general to educate and improve the poultry market as a whole in Gros-Morne.

A full business plan complete with financial spreadsheets are available for this project upon request. Before construction can begin, $60,000 must be raised. The startup cost includes all construction, equipment, purchase of hens, one-year salary and six months worth of feed. Onces the Poulaye is established, profits will be used to further expand the facility and encourage similar endeavors in other areas.

Hens for Haiti is proud to support this mission and looks forward to working closely with the international community to follow its success
